Rutgers Off-Campus Living and Community Initiatives helps students prepare for a more independent living experience off-campus by providing resources, education and advocacy while they navigate life off-campus. This includes informed housing search, and educational workshops focused on legal issues, safety, security and respect.
As part of the Offices of the Dean of Students, we address students basic needs, including food insecurity, housing insecurity and safety. We provide students with connection to various faith communities on campus and engagement with interfaith, bridge building opportunities.
The department interacts with students, parents, property owners, residents, local businesses, Chaplains, and city officials to establish priorities and create student programming that is reflective of community interests and concerns.

Rutgers University Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships provides an online listing of rental properties submitted by local, private landlords and apartment complexes. This resource is helpful for tenants searching for off-campus housing to connect with landlords who are interested in renting their residences to the Rutgers community. Education Resources
Our site provides information and resources to help you with your off-campus living experience. We provide basic information on landlord-tenant responsibilities, co-tenancy, security deposits, safety tips, utilities, and access to various municipal resources.
We also provide useful forms and checklists to help guide you through your off-campus living experience.
Problem Resolution
If you are having problems with your landlord, tenants, or co-tenants, our office can provide a number of options. After discussing the matter with you, we may suggest possible solutions or refer you to local agencies for more information or help. See the Problem Resolution section for more information.
