Digital Access Program (in partnership with Computers4People)

The Rutgers Basic Needs Center is proud to partner with Computers4People, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the digital divide by refurbishing and redistributing computers to individuals in under-resourced communities. Computers4People’s mission is to “unlock access to the digital world” by providing refurbished devices, teaching digital skills, and expanding connectivity opportunities for those most impacted by inequitable access to technology.

Through this partnership, the Rutgers Basic Needs Center is able to offer students equitable access to reliable technology essential for academic success. Computers4People collects and refurbishes donated devices using NIST 800-88 certified data erasure processes and distributes them to community members who need them most, helping recipients access education, employment, health services, and other critical digital resources.

This program supports our mission to remove obstacles that impact student success while promoting sustainability through responsible e-waste reduction. By offering no-cost computers to students, this program helps ensure that all members of the Rutgers community—regardless of financial circumstance—have the tools necessary to thrive in today’s digital learning environment.
